Cosmetic Dentistry Woodstock GA

Although the American Dental Association and the Georgia Board of Dentistry do not recognize "Cosmetic Dentistry" as a specialty, excelling in this area of general dentistry does require additional training. Not all veneers are created equal. The final result is directly related to the experience, training and artistic capabilities of the dentist. Each of our doctors has a passion for cosmetic dentistry and it is conveyed in their training, experience and use of technology. This passion is conveyed to our patients with natural beautiful results.

Porcelain Veneers
By definition, a porcelain veneer is a restoration that serves to change the size, shape or color of a tooth. In addition, there are different types of Veneers. Those that require tooth reduction (or prep) and those that do not require reduction. In most cases, a small portion of the tooth is removed from the front, sides and the edge of the tooth allowing for the porcelain restoration to mask imperfections and enhance tooth shape, length and color. There are several brand names for veneers. You may frequently hear of Veneers referred by brand names such as: Lumineers,MAC Veneers, DeVinci, DuraThins, Pearls and Rembrandt.

Teeth Whitening
White teeth are very much in fashion. Now, patients have so many more options to lighten the color of their stained teeth, renew their enamel and rejuvenate their smiles regardless of age factors. Depending on your needs, our office offers several forms of take-home and in-office whitening products and procedures for your convenience. Our brands include: Ultradent, Premier, Discuss Dental and Zoom Advanced whitening products. Regardless of the tooth whitening method you choose, a brighter smile does result in a more youthful appearance.

Dental Bonding
Composite bonding is a quick and relatively inexpensive method for changing the appearance of a tooth. Composite bonding is a plastic-like tooth colored material that is glued to the surface of the tooth. Bonding is often used to close spaces between teeth and repair fractured or broken teeth.

Simply put, dentures replace missing teeth. There are several types of dentures: Complete Dentures replace a complete set of missing teeth. Partial dentures replace missing teeth where several natural teeth remain. An Immediate complete denture replaces a complete set of teeth immediately after extraction. Implant supported complete dentures also replace all missing teeth but are held in place by dental implants. Dentures and Partials are one of the most economical methods of replacing missing teeth.

Dental Bridges
A dental bridge serves to replace a missing tooth or teeth by connecting the teeth in front of and behind the missing tooth space. The bridge is cemented into place and serves to replace the missing tooth in a fixed, non-removable manner. Dental bridges are coated in tooth colored porcelain as to provide a very aesthetic result.

Tooth-colored Fillings
In the past, when a tooth was damaged by a small amount of decay, it was restored with a silver amalgam filling. Tooth colored fillings have now replaced old-fashioned silver or amalgam fillings as the material of choice for repairing the damage from decay. Tooth colored fillings are made of composite resin filling material available in many colors and are bonded to the tooth. This procedure results in a better restoration. Composite fillings release fluoride for a long period of time. This release of fluoride combined with the bonding of the filling serve to greatly reduce the possibility of recurrent or new decay around the filling.

Endodontic Therapy
More commonly known as root canal therapy, Endodontic therapy refers to the removal of the nerve of the tooth. In cases of severe decay or trauma, the nerve of the tooth can die. This is referred to as a nonvital tooth. Nonvital teeth can result in tooth pain, tooth discoloration, tissue swelling or infection. Root Canal Therapy can save the tooth by removing the affected part of the tooth and replacing it with an inert filling material.

Full Mouth Restorations
Over time, many people wear or grind their teeth to the point where their teeth loose the ability to function properly. This loss of tooth structure can lead to Temperomandibular Joint Dysfunction also known as TMD. TMD can be very painful often interfering with the ability to eat or talk without pain. Additionally, this wear can expose layers of the teeth that are sensitive to temperature and more susceptible to dental decay. Full mouth restorations often involve splint therapy to restore the patients bite to it's ideal function.

Preventative Dentistry Woodstock GA

Preventative dentistry most commonly refers to dental hygiene cleanings. The American Dental Association recommends that each person have their teeth professionally cleaned twice annually. Following these guidelines, in addition to proper home care has been shown to help keep your teeth at their maximum health. There have been many studies relating oral health with systemic health specifically heart disease, diabetes and premature/low birth weight.

Preventive Treatment
Commonly referred to as "General Cleaning", preventative cleanings are a must to maintain a healthy mouth. Usually performed every 6 months, a professional cleaning includes a doctor's examination in conjunction with stain and tartar removal by a dental hygienist. Periodically, various x-rays are taken to aid in the doctor's diagnosis. The American Dental Association recommends that children beginning at age 3 see a dentist regularly to aid in the development of a healthy dentition. The same recommendations apply throughout adulthood.

Periodontal Therapy
Periodontal disease refers to the loss of supporting tooth structure specifically the bone and surrounding gum tissue. Typically along with a loss of support, bacterial infection and tooth mobility will also be present. Periodontal therapy can involve removal of the underlying cause such as calculus, tartar and bacteria. Some common examples of periodontal therapy are referred to as a Deep Cleaning, Scaling and Root Planning, Arestin Therapy, Periodontal Surgery and Periostat Oral Antibiotic Therapy.

Restorative Dentistry Woodstock GA

Restorative dentistry refers to the repair of a tooth. Teeth often need repairs due to decay, trauma, wear or congenital defects. Recent advances in dental adhesives have opened the door for many options to restore teeth. Prior to these advances treatment choices were limited to ugly metal restorations. Now teeth can be restored and given renewed appearance with stronger, more beautiful options. Some examples of common restorations include composite bonded tooth-colored fillings, porcelain inlays and onlays, gold crowns, porcelain bonded to metal crowns, all porcelain or Zirconium crowns, dental bridges, porcelain veneers and dental implants.

Porcelain Inlays and Onlays
When a tooth has been affected by decay and the amount of tooth loss is too large to be replaced with a composite bonded filling but not yet large enough to require a crown then often a porcelain inlay or onlay is indicated. Basically, the dentist mills a replica of the portion of the tooth that is missing and bonds it into place. This is much like a puzzle piece fits into a puzzle. Inlays and onlays can restore the strength of the tooth, add beauty to the tooth while minimizing tooth reduction, thus a more conservative restoration.

Dental Crowns
Crowns often referred to as "caps" are widely used to restore function and beauty to significantly damaged teeth. In situations where there is insufficient tooth structure remaining to place a composite filling or a porcelain inlay or onlay, then a crown may be indicated. Crowns cover all surfaces of the tooth and usually require a more significant reduction of tooth structure. They come in several types(gold, porcelain on metal, Zirconium or solid porcelain) and are cemented onto the tooth serving as a more permanent type of restoration.
