Morgan, Jr. A member of our team will be pleased to schedule a consultation between you and the dentist.

There are several reasons why you might need to undergo oral surgery:

Placement of a Dental Implant Post

The placement of a dental implant requires skill and experience, as the titanium implant post needs to integrate with the jawbone before it can be topped with an artificial tooth. The posts are surgically placed in the jawbone below the gap left by the missing tooth. It extends from the jawbone through the gum tissue and pokes out the top of the gums.

Dental implant patients must have sufficient jawbone to be able to properly support the implant post. It is not uncommon for patients who have lost teeth and need dental implants to have bone loss as well. In these cases where the bone has eroded or disintegrated, the oral surgeon may need to graft bone from another part of the jaw to provide stability for the implant post.

Extraction of a Tooth

If a tooth is severely decayed or damaged as a result of trauma, we may recommend its extraction before the condition worsens. Extractions are handled with the utmost delicacy to ensure optimal patient comfort and safety. Detailed post-extraction instructions will increase the chances of a swift and complication-free recovery. After the socket has healed properly, we may replace the extracted tooth with dental implants topped with crowns, bridges, or dentures.

Extraction of Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to come in, and sometimes there is insufficient room in the jaw for the teeth to erupt and grow properly. If this occurs, they are considered impacted teeth. Impacted teeth can cause pain, infection, and crowding of the adjacent teeth or roots. Small cysts can also form around the wisdom teeth, destroying surrounding bone or tooth roots. Impacted teeth need to be removed if their health is compromised or their positioning is poor.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy treats diseased dental pulp to save affected teeth. Pulp is the tissue containing nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue extending through a canal from the crown of the tooth to the tip of its root. When the pulp of the tooth becomes injured or infected, it needs to be treated through endodontic therapy like root canal treatment. If left untreated, the affected tooth can be irreparably damaged, requiring extraction. Root canal treatment involves removing the diseased pulp and cleaning and sealing off the root canal. A filling may be placed temporarily before a porcelain crown is placed atop the affected tooth or teeth to provide strength and support.
